  8. Physiology • How does the ear work? • Sound waves enter ear canal where they are amplified (resonated). • Tympanic membrane and ossicles vibrate. • Fluids of inner ear vibrate and stimulate hair cells. • Hair cells release an electric signal which travels to the brain.
