  2. The generalview… The general situation in Italy is very bad. The rate of unemployment is very high: 51%, especially for people aged between 15-24 In 2013 there were 3.300.000 unemployed people and the situation has been getting worse because of the economical crisis. In Italy from 2008 to 2013 the number of employed people went down from 25,2 milions to 24,3 milions.

  3. …in Italy Italy is far from other countries in Europe. In fact, for every person who has a job, there is another one who could potentially work but, for many reasons, can’t because of lack of job opportunities. Quite a few people work without a legal contract and thus do not appear in official statistics.

  4. …and in Sicily There are lots of young people who are forced to stay at home with their parents because they still haven’t found a job. Sometimes these people have high ambitions for their future, so they refuse a job that does not correspond to their dreams. Among the unemployed there are people who no longer look for a job. The real reason for this is that they are discouraged and they don’t believe they could find a job.

  5. The situation of the young people In the area of ‘potential workers’ between 15-24, 61%are women. More than 60% of the labour force lives in the south of the country. They are usually people having lower levels of education or no qualification at all.
