HISTORY • kidney damage seen in PKD is actually the result of the body's immune system • Middle age or infancy • Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), first reported in 1967, is an inherited disease in Persian and Persian-cross cats • The first was located in 1985 on chromosome 16 for humans • found primarily in the kidney but they can also affect other organs, including the liver, pancreas, spleen and ovary
Diagnosis • diagnostic kidney imaging is ultrasound, but more precise studies, such as computerized tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) , or IVP • To find it early you need physical checkups and blood and urine tests
Transmission • It is passed down through families, it is an dominant or recessive trait • It is co-dominance • It is caused by a mutation, but the mutation will never go away Ex) one parent has it, 50% of the children will have the disease
Signs & SymptomsThese symptoms will start and stay through your life… • Abdominal pain or tenderness • Blood in the urine • Excessive urination at night • Flank pain on one or both sides • Drowsiness • High blood pressure • Joint pain • Nail abnormalities • Painful menstruation
Treatment • In the following points these will make you feel better: • Blood pressure medicines • Diuretics • Low-salt diet • kidney dialysis or kidney transplantation • But, there is no real treatment to get rid of the whole thing
