Note-taking • Many people take notes, but never look at them again • Opening a note takes more effort than flipping to a page • No method to search through your notes for a word • It might be easier to get the same information you took notes about by googling it
Note Searching • We’ve attempted to solve these problems • By creating a one-touch and write application that searches your notes and lets you access them easily • It can be thought of as an incredibly easy to use note googlizer
Stan the Law Student • Stan is about to take the Bar • Stan has thousands of Law notes on his Tablet PC • He wants to review terms that scattered throughout his notes • How does Stan find these terms in his notes?
Stan the Law Student • So Stan downloads InkLight, installs it (easily), and gets to work. Right on, Stan!
Dan the Business Man • Dan meets Richard, a powerful executive, while at a meeting • Richard gives Dan his contact information, which Dan writes in his meeting notes • Later that year, Dan has a great idea that he wants to share with Richard • How does Dan find Richard’s contact info?
Dan the Business Man • Dan uses InkLight to search for Richard’s contact info.
Current Limitations • Many limitations based on Ink Analyzer • Cannot search for “SIGCSE” for example • Our contacts search is rather limited • Contact name must be in our name dictionary • A phone number must be a single word with dashes
Future Vision • Better performance • Definitely use a database rather than load everything into memory • Automatic indexing when a new note is made • Better information extraction • Not just over contacts • Integrated into Tablet PCs • Like spotlight in Mac OS X
