Motivations Guy Montag: Beginning- burning books; believes it is the right thing to do. End- saving books; realizes books have a lot to offer. Clarisse McClellan: Beginning- is different from everybody else and gives Montag a new perspective of life. Captain Beatty: Beginning & End- burns books because he believe that’s what they were made for and is very strict with his job.
Motivations Continued Mildred Montag: Beginning- over-doses, showing she didn’t like the life she was living. End- leaves her husband for standing up for his beliefs showing the love they had wasn’t that strong. Granger: End- shows Montag that they still have a chance to make things right and give hope to Montag and the rest of the men in their group. Professor Faber: Beginning-shows interest in Montag End- stays true to Montag and helps him escape for sticking up for their beliefs
Relationships Guy Montag: • Is married to Mildred and they live together. Clarisse McClellan: • Is a 17 year old girl and has an uncle • A symbol of change to Montag. Captain Beatty: • Is Montag’s captain • A fireman • A symbol of the need for change
Relationships Continued Mildred Montag: • Is married to Guy Montag and has two friends, Mrs. Phillips and Mrs. Bowles. Granger: • Is a hobo on the railroad tracks • Has three friends, Fred Climant, Dr. Simmons, and Professor West. Professor Faber: • used to be an old English teacher. • Met Montag from sitting in a park and he knew Montag would need his help later on so he gave him his number.
Purpose Guy Montag: • The protagonist of the story, he is the one who the story is going around Clarisse McClellan: • The girl in the story that made Montag think differently and change his thoughts towards everything. Captain Beatty: • The antagonist of the story, Beatty went against Montag’s beliefs. Mildred Montag: • Montag’s wife, is always trying to make things happy and take the easy way out other than dealing with them, she also committed suicide by over-dosing. Granger: • One of the homeless men that Montag met out of the city, he is the leader of the homeless group. Professor Faber: - A man that Montag met at a park a year before, he was the mentor.
