  1. Numbers 9  The Lord spoke to Moses in the Desert of Sinai in the first month of the second year after they came out of Egypt. He said, 2 “Have the Israelites celebrate the Passover at the appointed time. 3 Celebrate it at the appointed time, at twilight on the fourteenth day of this month, in accordance with all its rules and regulations.”

  2. 4 So Moses told the Israelites to celebrate the Passover, 5 and they did so in the Desert of Sinai at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses.

  3. 6 But some of them could not celebrate the Passover on that day because they were ceremonially unclean on account of a dead body. So they came to Moses and Aaron that same day 7 and said to Moses, “We have become unclean because of a dead body, but why should we be kept from presenting the Lord’s offering with the other Israelites at the appointed time?”

  4. 8 Moses answered them, “Wait until I find out what the Lord commands concerning you.” 9 Then the Lord said to Moses, 10 “Tell the Israelites: ‘When any of you or your descendants are unclean because of a dead body or are away on a journey, they are still to celebrate the Lord’s Passover,

  5. 11 but they are to do it on the fourteenth day of the second month at twilight. They are to eat the lamb, together with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 12 They must not leave any of it till morning or break any of its bones. When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations.

  6. 13 But if anyone who is ceremonially clean and not on a journey fails to celebrate the Passover, they must be cut off from their people for not presenting the Lord’s offering at the appointed time. They will bear the consequences of their sin.

  7. 14 “‘A foreigner residing among you is also to celebrate the Lord’s Passover in accordance with its rules and regulations. You must have the same regulations for both the foreigner and the native-born.’”

  8. The Order of NumbersNumbers 1-10:10 Numbers give order to our lives For the people of Israel it allowed them to know… Their strength Renew their identity And build consensus It was all about self-management

  9. Numbers 1 2 “Take a census of the whole Israelite community by their clans and families, listing every man by name, one by one. 3 You and Aaron are to number by their divisions all the men in Israel twenty years old or more who are able to serve in the army. 46 The total number was 603,550.

  10. The census allowed them to know how large and powerful they had become To see possibilities for the future Not former slaves lost in the desert

  11. Numbers 2 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: 2 “The Israelites are to camp around the Tent of Meeting some distance from it, each man under his standard with the banners of his family.”

  12. Order was established These former slaves, in order to succeed, must develop a strong sense of orderliness

  13. Numbers 3 This is the account of the family of Aaron and Moses… 17 These were the names of the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.

  14. 39 The total number of Levites counted at the Lord’s command by Moses and Aaron according to their clans, including every male a month old or more, was 22,000.

Numbers 5 2 “Command the Israelites to send away from the camp anyone who has an infectious skin disease or a discharge of any kind, or who is ceremonially unclean because of a dead body. 3 Send away male and female alike; send them outside the camp so they will not defile their camp, where I dwell among them.”

  21. 6 “Say to the Israelites: ‘When a man or woman wrongs another in any way and so is unfaithful to the Lord, that person is guilty 7 and must confess the sin he has committed. He must make full restitution for his wrong, add one fifth to it and give it all to the person he has wronged.

  22. 12 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If a man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him… 14 …if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife… 15 then he is to take his wife to the priest.

  23. This needed to be a people with rules and regulations If they could not manage themselves, how could they possibly manage a nation

  24. Numbers 6 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If a man or woman wants to make a special vow, a vow of separation to the Lord as a Nazirite, 3 he must abstain from wine and other fermented drink… 5 “ ‘During the entire period of his vow of separation no razor may be used on his head.

  25. 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: 24 -26“ ‘ “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” ’

  26. There were standards And rules about exceptions to the rules Otherwise anyone could claim leadership Everything would be in constant flux

  27. Numbers 7 When Moses finished setting up the tabernacle, he anointed it and consecrated it and all its furnishings.
