Project aims: • to reduce health inequalities • follow a preventative agenda • secure initiatives that can be delivered to families, adults and older people
The three priorities: To address the level of obesity, in order to reduce the prevalence of a number of conditions such as cardiovascular disease, strokes and diabetes. To keeping older people independent as part of meeting the demands of the rise in the number of older people, which will have a significant impact on the need for health and social care, including: • Increasing numbers of people with dementia • Increasing numbers of admissions to hospital as a result of falls in those aged over 6 65years • Increasing need for hip replacements knee replacements and cataract surgery in those aged over 65 years • Increased uptake of adult social care services in all local authorities and across all client groups To increase physical activity and promoting wellbeing, which underpins mental and physical health

What is Healthy Start? • With Healthy Start, you can get free vouchers every week which you swap for milk, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and infant formula milk. You can also get free vitamins. Healthy Start replaces the Welfare Food Scheme. NHS

The Cook and Eat Programme: • HC3S who are the Hampshire School Meals provider has developed this programme in partnership with Hampshire Primary Care Trust and Borough Councils. The aim is to use more local produce, reduce obesity in children and promote the health and wellbeing of school children within Hampshire using school meal recipes. • The programme consists of six weekly sessions for children and their parents. During each 1.5 hour session, parents and children learn: • practical cooking skills • healthy eating tips • food hygiene and safety • how to budget and reduce food bills • how to create menus for the family.
MEND - Mind, Exercise, Nutrition - DO IT! MEND is “Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do it”; and is a fun, effective and practical lifestyle solution focused on families with overweight children. MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do it!) is a social enterprise dedicated to reducing global overweight and obesity levels.
