  2. Course Objective • Advanced class in finance • pre-requisites in finance !!!!! • Part of the Research track • Clearly with a research orientation • Need to be able to criticize • Title of the course • broad, leaves a large room of maneuver

  3. This Year • A literature review on any topic in finance • Updated with the recent contributions • Discriminating between interesting and less interesting papers (emphasis on the former) • Ability to criticize the papers

Working Papers • Publication is a protracted process: desire (necessity) to present ones research without losing time => Working Papers • Available for most universities • But also on more general websites: • NBER: http://www.nber.org/ • SSRN: http://www.ssrn.com/ • Ideas-Repec: http://ideas.repec.org/ .

  6. How to search?? • By keyword, by author • By JEL code: http://www.aeaweb.org/jel/jel_class_system.php • Each code is associated with a sub-field of economics. • Financial Economics: G • G1 General Financial Markets • G14 - Information and Market Efficiency; Event Studies .

  7. Delivery • Delivery in two phases: • Presentation and constructive criticism of one paper (half an hour presentation) => Literature review: written review (max. 25 pages), presentation and power point to be delivered (one hour presentation)

  8. In practice • Tentative schedule: • March 1st latest, topic to be given (e-mail first arrived first served), Q&A session • March 29th presentation 1 • After Easter break: final presentations

  9. How do I grade? • On basis of the delivery • Presentation 1: presentation, choice of the article, quality of criticism and interaction with other presentations (5/20) • Presentation 2: Presentation 5/20, • Written text 5/20, completeness, relevance of articles, critique • Power point 5/20 clarity of ideas, structure of the presentation
