What is Student Voice? • Student Voice is a way for students to express their opinions and for their voices to be heard about school matters. • Student Voice has been running at SWCHS for ? Years. • 3 voices overseen by 3 Co-ordinators (teachers) and Mrs Dale (Asst Head)
3 Voices • BLUE – Teaching and Learning • GREEN – Environment and Community • PURPLE - Wellbeing
The Perfect Student Voice Student What skills/attitudes/ talents do you think a student voice student HAS and will LEARN? * Please DRAW the features onto the body outline
Brain Power Listening skills Reports back Aware of what is going on Lends a helping hand Voices their views Rolls up their sleeves & mucks in Kind, volunteers, wants to make a difference Thinks on their feet NB: There is a reason I am a Business teacher and NOT an Art teacher!
Mission (Im)Possible! • Watch Video from assembly.
Student Voice Structure • Each form has 1 rep for each Voice. • Total of 50 Blue/Green/Purple reps across the 5 years • From this – there are 12 ‘Executive’ reps • Meetings with the Co-ordinator are held each half-term. • Reps report back to their forms using minutes, discuss points, collect ideas/views for next meeting. • Points are discussed and actioned. • Years 7 – 9 meet • Years 10 – 11 have Committee Meetings, a new initiative this year
Student Voice Achievements • ‘We have complied information from the comments the student body made, within form groups, about marking and feedback and put it into this booklet. • We hope that you will find it useful and perhaps even use it for when you are marking work in the future. • There are separate pages for marking work from each year group to show how each felt specifically about feedback. • We would like to thank all of the students of SWCHS for their input into what we think is a really important document.’
What can you do? • If your child is a Student Voice Rep – encourage them to be pro-active with their role, take it seriously and get involved. • If your child isn’t a Student Voice Rep, they can still get involved. The ideas start with them! For changes to be made we need ALL students to get involved, whether this is fund-raising, making their view heard or volunteering. SWCHS OFSTED Report 2012: ‘They (students) take enormous pride in their school.’
Question and Answer Session • Any questions? • Please can you fill out the Questionnaire before you leave. • Many thanks!
