Engaged Learning for the Next Generation Cyber Investigator Building upon AACC’s initiatives for cyber studies and student engagement, and despite significant time constraints, two teams of students entered the 2011 DoD Cyber Crime Center’s (DC3) Digital Forensics Challenge. With only 17 days left to complete the assigned tasks and make a favorable impression on the judges, eight students formed two competing teams. Each team collaborated daily, always keeping their mentor and coach, Dawn Blanche, apprised of their progress. The coach also incorporated DC3-type exercises into her classes. “It is important for students to experience real world activities. The exercises provide the same investigative scenarios that the DoD tackles on a daily basis - including hard drive examination, password cracking, and search warrant production.” Students used the resources from class, but were also encouraged to find tools and solutions on their own. In the end, one team won first place in the community college division of the DC3 Challenge. Home Institution Innovator Our Innovation Visit Us Contact
