  2. Thanksgiving Day is America’s preeminent day. It is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in the month of November. It has a very interesting history and its origin can be traced back to the 16th century when the first thanksgiving dinner is said to have taken place. origin

  3. Thanksgiving Day became a holiday almost 400 years ago, in 1621. The legendary pilgrims crossed the Atlantic in the year 1620 in Mayflower. About 102 people traveled for nearly two months with extreme difficulty. Though the original destination was somewhere in the northern part of Virginia, they could not reach the place owing to winds blowing them off course.   4. Nearly 46 pilgrims died due to extreme cold in winter. However, in the spring of 1621, a native Indian brought them necessities and especially sent someone to teach the pilgrims to survive by growing food and hunting animals. In the autumn of 1621, they held a grand celebration where 90 people were invited including Indians. The grand feast was organized to thank god for his favors.   6. Thanksgiving Day is usually a family day. People always celebrate with big dinners and happy reunions. In this day, relatives from other cities, students who have been away at school,many other Americans travel a long distance to spend the holiday at home.

  7. Most government offices, businesses, schools and other organizations are closed on Thanksgiving Day. Many offices and businesses allow staff to have a four-day weekend so these offices and businesses also closed on the Friday after Thanksgiving Day. Public transit systems do not usually operate on their regular timetables.
