Applying For Financial Aid • Apply for financial aid every year after January 1st. • Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) • Deadline is March 2nd.

Vernon, IL 62864-8601 E-mail: www.ed.gov/studentaid. • 3-4 weeks paper process time • 1-2 weeks electronic process time • Include Mount St. Mary’s School Code: 001243so we receive your FAFSA information.
A Financial Aid Offer will be sent once the Office of Student Financing receives: • Your Student Aid Report from the Federal Processor • Any supplemental information that has been requested • Notification of your official acceptance into the program

Stafford Loans • Subsidized Loans: • Need based loans. • Government pays interest while student is in school. • Unsubsidized Loans: • Not need based loans. • Borrower pays interest six months after he/she has graduated. • Guaranteed & Deferrable • Must be enrolled ½ time

Parent Plus Loan • Federal loan offered to parent. • Based on credit. • Student must be enrolled at least ½ time. • Repayment begins after the loan is fully disbursed. • If loan is rejected; becomes an unsubsidized loan under student name.
Independent Student • 24 years of age or older • Enrolled in a master’s or doctorate program • Married • Have children who receive more than ½ of their support from you • Have dependents other than children or spouse • Ward or dependent of the court • Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces
Merit Awards • Merit Awards: • Upon application to MSMC, you will be considered for a merit award based upon your academic achievement • Awarded by the Admissions Department
Alternative Financing • TMS Payment Plan: (see business office for more information 310-954-4040). • Private Loans: Credit based and sometimes require a credit worthy co-signer. Interest rates vary, depending on credit history. Repayment occurs six months after graduation.

Policy Change • Effective Fall 2013, students enrolled in the Traditional BSN Program must take the required nutrition course sophomore year at MSMC. Nutrition courses taken at other institutions will not be accepted as meeting our degree requirement.

Common issues that disqualify candidates: • Missing or late transcripts • Not submitting up-to-date transcripts • Missing or late letters of reference • Reactivation forms without Prerequisite Checklist and updated Personal Statement Facts Regarding Admission There are only 10 spaces available for transfer students The Office of Admission receives over 150 applications for these few spaces, therefore all applications must be complete and all application materials received on or before the deadline. No exceptions will be made.

Kaplan Exam • Required for all direct to program candidates • Offered on campus to qualified candidates after the application deadline • Students will be notified at a later date regarding specifics of the exam
Pre-Nursing Option • Candidates have not finished all prerequisite courses and would like to finish them at MSMC • Students will take classes over the course of one academic year and be eligible for admission the following fall • Does not guarantee admission to the BSN program, however, more spaces are available for pre-nursing students
Repeat Policy • A student may repeat a prerequisite course no more than once • Failure (C- and below) of any two required prerequisite courses or one course twice renders an applicant ineligible for the Nursing programs at Mount St. Mary’s College
THREE NURSING PROGRAMS • Associate Degree in Nursing • Doheny Campus • Evening classes, clinical classes on weekends • Overall GPA of 2.5 or greater • Science GPA of 2.5 or greater • Applicants are required to take the T.E.A.S exam • Starts in Fall and Spring
THREE NURSING PROGRAMS • Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing • Doheny Campus • Must have a Bachelors Degree in any discipline • 46 units of pre-requisite courses • Overall GPA of 3.0 or greater • Starts Summer and Fall of each year
THREE NURSING PROGRAMS • LVN to RN option • Must hold LVN license, have taken all prerequisites, and: • Nutrition Religious Studies • Philosophy- Moral Values Art or Music • Minimum 2.7 GPA • Pass 4 Challenge Exams with a score of 75% on each • RN to BSN program – 1 to 2 years • Must hold RN license • Must have graduated from accredited college with an ADN • Validation of clinical competence form • N40 Roy adaptation model – offered in summer and spring
Please remember… The Nursing Departments govern admission practices and policies. The Office of Admission processes files and must adhere to the rules set forth by the departments. Your evaluation begins the moment you inquire. Please be mindful of your attitude towards all faculty and staff.
