Identification of the MIRS Products that Provide Significant Information About the Rain Rate
Identification of the MIRS Products that Provide Significant Information About the Rain Rate
Identification of the MIRS Products that Provide Significant Information About the Rain Rate • Over Land: GWP (IWP) and RWP • Over Ocean: GWP (IWP) , RWP,CLW ,TPW Water Vapor at 950mb Temperature at 950mb Geopotential Thickness Freezing Level Height Skin Temperature
Generate the MIRS Rain Rate Using a Regression Algorithm that Combines the MIRS Products • Over Land: MIRS RR = Ao + A1*IWP + A2*RWP • Over Ocean: MIRS RR = Ao + A1*IWP + A2*RWP + A3*TPW+ … where Ai are regression coefficients
MIRS Products used for Training the Regression Algorithm Over Land: RWP and IWP MIRS-MSPPS Rain Rate vs Regression Rain Rate
MIRS Product Used for Training Over Ocean (1/2): IWP, RWP and CLW MIRS-MSPPS Rain Rate vs Regression Rain Rate
MIRS Product Used for Training Over Ocean (2/2): GWP, RWP, CLW,TPW, Skin Temperature, Water Vapor at 950mb, Temp. at 950mb, Geopotential Thickness and Freezing Level Height MIRS-MSPPS Rain Rate vs Regression Rain Rate

First Results about MIRS-CloudSat Hydrometeor Inter-comparison are now Posted in the MIRS website under Validation Section
Future Work • Work on a new rain rate algorithm based on TRMM data products. • For validation and inter-comparison purposes, make the MIRS rain rate suitable for its inclusion in the International Precipitation Working Group (IPWG) project.
