  1. Friday, August 28th/Tuesday, September 2nd: Texas vs Johnson Majority Opinion “American Flag Stands for Tolerance”

  2. Reflection #1: • Objective: I will explore my own beliefs about the handling of the flag so that as I read a court decision and editorial I may make personal connections with the texts. There are specific guidelines that citizens are supposed to follow when handling the American flag. Please go to the VFW link on flag etiquette to read some of the particular guidelines. Should the American flag demand such special care? Be sure to explain your answer with specific details.

  3. Texas vs. JohnsonMajority Opinion (15) • Objective: I will read and analyze a court decision to cite the evidence that an author used to support their claim. Court decisions use very formal language and complicated sentences. • Read the court decision. Hint: Any word that has a blue number after it or that is blue itself will offer you the definition if you click on it. • Write down the SC’s claim. • Write down the data that they use to support that decision. • Jot down any questions that you have while you read.
