The German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (GAFPB) is a decoration of the Bundeswehr of the Federal Republic of Germany. Allied Soldiers may also be awarded the badge. In the U.S. Military, the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge is one of the few approved foreign awards, and it is one of the most sought after awards to achieve.

Situation Past • Reacted on individual requests without coordination between units • Travel around the country to test • Partly tested and awarded by U.S Soldiers • 230 awarded in 2012 • Standards (e.g. 30K ruck with 22lbs; 200swim; shot put) Future • Annual plan for the testing given; new known by the end of December • Focus on Ft. Gordon Community • Testing and awarding only by German Soldiers • Goal of 150+ to be tested • Standards with significant changes (e.g. 12K ruck with 33lbs; 100swim with ACU; pull-ups)
Intention Continue to offer the appreciated German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge and ensures at the same time the „Core Tasks“ of the German Liaison Team Motto: “action” instead of “reaction”
Task / Mission Who: German Liaison Team What: creates Concept of Operations for the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge How: - testing only by German Graders - no sending of awards - no training by German Liaison Team - planed for a Year - all events during one test week - in accordance to U.S. regulations When: as of March 2013 Where: with the focus on the Ft. Swim 100m in Uniform 100 Swim in Uniform (Jacket + Pants) male and female 4 min than undress in water directly after 100m swim, without taking a break get undressed : NO Time Limit If you hold on to the edge you will be disqualified!
Basis Fitness Test BFT = Basic Fitness Test (3EVENTS in 90 min) • 11 x 10-meter • sprint test 1000 m Run Pull-up test Minimum pass Requirements max. 54 sec Minimum pass Requirements 4 Pull-ups Minimum pass Requirements max. 5min 35 sec Minimum test requirements have to be met, independently of age or gender. If testee does not meet the minimum pass requirements or one or more test events, the BFT will be deemed failed. No additional scoring will take place. 2 3 1 Sequence To provide a standardized test environment, the sequence of tests has been predefined and is binding for all testers.
BFT 11x10 meter sprint test 1 4 2 Event The testee starts from a prone position (head showing in the direction of the run) and negotiates, as fast as possible, a cone positioned 10 (ten) meters away. As soon as testee gets back to the start point, he briefly assumes a prone position, claps his hands behind his back, jumps up onto his feet and sprints again. The aim is to run five and a half laps in the fastest time possible. 3 Finish Line after Sprint 11
BFT Pull-up test • Pull-up test • Start Position • Pull-up test • Finish Position Event - The testee holds himself in the start position of a pull-up, arms shoulder wide on the bar. - Testee's evaluation will be based on the amount of pull-ups min. 4. - Testee pulls himself up, with the strength of his upper body, arms and back muscles, till the chin is above the bar. (no lower body movement) - Testee comes back to a straight hanging and is trying to do as much reputations as he can.
BFT 1000 Meter run 1000 m Run Minimum pass Requirements max. 5min 35 sec Event Testee completes the 1000-meter run in the shortest time possible. Test sequence For the 1000-meter (or 1-K) run, the track ideally should be 400 meters long. The runner starts at the 200-meter mark. So measured from the start/finish line, the runner must run two complete laps of the race. Once he has crossed the finish line, the tester records the runner's time to the second. In total 2 ½ Laps. (1/4mile Track 2 3/8 Laps)
