Meet Parvana She lives in Afghanistan
Parvana lives in this war torn country where: • Girls cannot go to school • Women cannot work outside the home • Women cannot leave their homes without a man • Homes have no running water • There are no TV’s, video games, or toys
Listen to the music of Afghanistan • Do you hear it???? • I don’t (That wasn’t allowed either!)
Burqa: A long tent-like garment which covers the entire body and head of a woman. Some new words that you will read:
Karachi: A cart on wheels, pushed by hand or pulled by donkey
What life was like before the war . . A common girls’ school. (Boys had their own school)
Here’s how girls spend their days since the Taliban took over . . .
The Taliban? Who are they? • Talib is an Arabic word meaning "one who is seeking" but the word has evolved to mean "someone who is seeking religious knowledge." But, these men have taken this to an extreme, and rule with force and power.
