LAMEPS activities at the Hungarian Meteorological ServiceEdit Hágel (hagel.e@met.hu) During 2003 LAMEPS research had been started at HMS. At first we concentrated on the optimal use of a global ensemble system as initial and boundary conditions for our limited area model ALADIN. The global ensemble system considered is based on the French global model ARPEGE, where perturbations are generated using the singular vector method and a 10+1 member ensemble is created. Our work is concentrating on the optimization of the global singular vectors in terms of target domain and target time in order to obtain optimal pertubations providing relevant results for the Central-European territory. The first results of the sensitivity experiments prove that either the global singular vectors should be computed with different target domain and/or time window as it is for the global application or local perturbations are needed in order to be able to improve the predictability of extreme events which are endangering life and property. 2nd SRNWP Workshop on Short Range Ensemble - Bologna 7-8 April 2005
