Benefits for the volunteers • Volunteer work provides an opportunity to learn new skills and valuable work experience (enhancing marketability both for work and college acceptance) • Volunteer experience is a context for developing significant relationships with like-minded people • The experience of volunteerism can help develop many social skills – identity development, compassion, sense of agency (ability to make a difference), leadership, confidence and self-esteem. What can you do? • Join a club or organization that devotes time to community service activities. • Find a local organization that may need volunteers. • MUST Ministries, Goodwill, Cherokee Thanksgiving, Boys & Girls Club, Merismos Ministries (Canton), Church on the Street (feed and provide many things for the homeless and underprivileged), Give a Kid a Chance, Love Loud (Through First Baptist Woodstock). • Find a local business that provides a service and help there. (Hospital, Nursing Home, Childcare) • Pick up trash • Plant a tree • Smile • Help someone in need
