Nouns • Nouns are catagorized into groups called declensions • Nouns that end in “a” belong to the 1st Declension • Nouns that end in “us” or “um” belong to the 2nd Declension • Some nouns that end in “er” also belong to the 2nd Declension • Three that you learned in Exploratory Latin are: Vir, Magister, Puer

Nouns • Other nouns that have a variety of endings belong to the Third Declension • Nouns can also be one of three genders. • These genders are Masculine, Feminine, or Neuter. • Nouns that end in “a” are almost always feminine. • Nouns that end in “us” are always masculine • Nouns that end in “um” are always neuter. • Nouns that belong to third declension can be any gender. You will simply have to memorize it as they come up.

  4. Verbs • There are two types of verbs in Latin: • “est” is an example of a Linking Verb. • “scribit” is an example of an Action Verb. • There is no Helping Verb in Latin. DO NOT MAKE ONE!!! • The linking verb can appear anywhere in the sentence. • The action verb usually appears at the end of the sentence. • The –t ending on a verb indicationes the subject is “he” “she” or “it”
