Motivation • Larger address space for global reachability and scalability • Simplified header for routing efficiency and performance • Deeper hierarchy and policies for network architecture flexibility • Efficient support for routing and route aggregation • Server-less auto-configuration, easier renumbering, multi-homing, and improved plug and play support • Security with mandatory IP Security (IPSec) support for all IPv6 devices • Improved support for Mobile IP and mobile computing devices (direct-path) • Enhanced multicast support with increased addresses and efficient mechanisms
Scope • Build scalable nation-wide IPv6 native test network. • Ensure IPv6 standards compliance for current/future systems. • Establish test environment to evaluate the compliance of hardware and software with IPv6 standards • Work towards exposure of the IPv6 standards within UAE universities and research communities.
Milestones • Form Etisalat IPv6 Task Force Aug, 2001 • Testing IPv6 with 6Bone (via SPRINT) Oct, 2001 • Obtain Unicast IPv6 Addresses from (RIPE NCC) Oct, 2001 • Building Etisalat Basic IPv6 network - Phase #1 Feb, 2002 • Peering with ISPs – Phase #1 June,2002 • Testing within Etisalat In progress • IPv6 Systems Infrastructure.
