  2. Warm-up • How do you think average Americans helped with the fight during WWII?

  3. Vocabulary • Bonds-certificates sold by the government to raise money. You can retrieve the money after a set amount of time. • Propaganda-information that is spread, often by the government, for the purpose of promoting some cause • Rationing- giving a fixed portion of food or other essentials to each person to conserve goods.

  4. Notes: Rationing • War bonds and rationing were used as ways to support the troops overseas. • The government asked the American people to ration food and other important resources so that they would have enough to send to the troops. • Recycling of metals also became important during this time.

  5. Notes: War Bonds • The government raised taxes but it was not enough to support the war effort so they borrowed from the public by selling war bonds. • People bought war bonds as a patriotic gesture to give the government more money • They would get a little bit of interest when it was paid back.

  6. Propaganda • Propaganda was used to gain support for the war effort. • There are many different forms of Propaganda but all propaganda in the U.S. during this time was created by the government to encourage people to support the war in anyway possible.

  7. Propaganda Exercise • There are 8 pieces of propaganda from the 1940s around the room. • You will go to each and fill out your graphic organizer. • Each time you fill out a propaganda number you will come back to me to get it checked. You will then either be told to move on or retry it. • You get 10 pts for every correct one you complete. These points will then be added to your class work grade.
