How long glass takes to decompose in a landfill. In the natural environment glass takes approximately 1,000,000 years to decompose due to the anaerobic conditions and keeping water out of landfills the decomposion rate could easily double or triple in landfills.
MOULDING GLASS CONTAINERS STEP 3 MOULDING GLASS CONTAINERSHere moulted glass is channeld off in forths where it is slowly cooled to temperatures of 1100 – 1150 to increase its viscosity. Precisly weighed slugs of glass are cut off, moulded with compressed air, cooled slowly in annealing lehrs and coated with a special spray to prevent scratching.
PROCESS OF GLASS STEP 1 BATCH MELTING The mixture is heated to 1500- 1550oC where the ingredients melt various chemical’ reactions take place and Co2 and So3 are evolved. STEP 2 SHAPING PLATE GLASS The moulded glass is cooled to 1000oC in a drawing canal, and then drawn up a tower where its pressed into the dicier width and thickness and cools to 280oC individual plates of glass are snapped off at the top of the tower and further cooled before being put into storage ready for sale.
