NAME: SSC Meeting CLASS/PERIOD: 3:40PM DATE: November 15, 2012 CORNELL NOTES TOPIC//OBJECTIVE: ESSENTIAL QUESTION: QUESTIONS/BIG IDEAS: NOTES: SUMMARY: Members present Welcome Minutes DAC Representative SSC training Margarita Baciagalupo, teacher Michele Bowdan, teacher Maria Delgado, parent Brenda Dickey, support staff Paul Hannasch, teacher Howard Jenkins, community member Linda Manabat, Administrative Asst. Garry Rollins, Principal Michelle Stinebaugh, Chair Derrick Suzuki, Teacher Jayme Wynn, teacher The meeting began at 3:50PM with Mr. Rollins introducing Mr. Jenkins, a concerned community member who is actively involved with Lincoln H.S., to the committee members. Mr. Jenkins in turn introduced himself and shared his desire to be involved with Knox Middle School as well. Committee members reviewed minutes from the last meeting and unanimously approved them with noted correction DLAC should be DELAC. Motion to approve: Mr. Hannasch; 2nd, Mrs. Bowdan. Mr. Jenkins agreed to be the representative and voting member for Knox. He assured the committee that he would appoint a replacement in the event he cannot attend any meeting. Ms. Stinebaugh will continue to serve as the DELAC representative. Ms. Stinebaugh reminded committee members to sign up in ERO for the upcoming School Site Council training on December 4th, 5th, 6th. Mr. Hannasch, Mr. Suzuki and Mr. Jenkins planned to attend on Dec. 4th, while Ms. Stinebaugh and Ms. Dickey planned to attend on Dec. 5th.

NAME: SSC Meeting CLASS/PERIOD: 3:40 PM DATE: November 15, 2012 CORNELL NOTES TOPIC//OBJECTIVE: ESSENTIAL QUESTION: QUESTIONS/BIG IDEAS: NOTES: SUMMARY: Mr. Rollins requested funds for allocation to the Title 1 Parent Involvement Fund. Funds totaling $2,257.82 were requested for child care during parent meetings, supplies and light refreshments for parents, supplies for parenting classes and workshops, postage stamps, and hourly teacher salary for parent trainings/workshops. (See attached itemization) Motion to approve fund request: Mr. Hannasch; 2nd Ms. Wynn. All in favor. Due to current funding issues, we need to use EIA 70900 monies to increase a math position from .2667 to a .6667, creating a full 1.0 position. Motion approved. Stinebaugh, 2nd Bowdan. All in favor. Ms. Stinebaugh attends the meetings regularly and shared how the meetings were designed specifically for parents and their involvement to lead all activities. At the last meeting she attended, she learned about Dream Act and migrant education funds that were available. She communicated the desire to identify students at Knox who would qualify for such funding. Mr. Rollins explained that Parent-Connect, which is currently glitchy, would be moved to Student Connect where students go onto the District website. Student would teach their parents how to access this information in lieu of orientations. Mr. Jenkins expressed interest in assisting in the event Knox planned an orientation. Mr. Rollins provided an update on current planning. Shantiel Edwards is in charge this year. This 36th annual parade will take place on Friday, January 18, 2013. Although marching is a civil right and there is no cost to utilize police on the route, it requires barricades for which the school must pay. When Mr. Rollins spoke of the 4 to 5 block radius of the route, and recalled that Lincoln and Morse High School bands have played during the march, he prompted Mr. Jenkins to inquire if there were a bridge program between Knox and Lincoln because he was interested in being a part of it. NAME: SSC Meeting CLASS/PERIOD: 3:40 PM DATE: November 15, 2012 CORNELL NOTES TOPIC//OBJECTIVE: ESSENTIAL QUESTION: QUESTIONS/BIG IDEAS: NOTES: SUMMARY: Mr. Jenkins expressed his excitement about being a part of SSC, and his concern for area 1; A Knox Community Council member, Ms. Dorothy J. was introduced to the team.; Ms. Baciagalupo announced the upcoming Parent Celebration Day to include Zumba, refreshments and parent visits to their child’s Discovery class. She shared that the community was made aware of the celebration via banners, flyers, and ConnectEd calls. Motion to adjourn by Mr. Hannasch; 2nd, Ms. Stinebaugh - 4:39pm Round Table Adjournment
