  1. Sardis Skyhawks go on an energy diet

  2. It all began with a visit by the BC Lions Energy Team……… Our interest was “sparked” and some of our classrooms decided to join the Energy Diet Challenge.

  3. We set out to Increase our knowledge about energy use in our school and at home, and see if we could reduce our eco-footprint.

  4. The SkyhawkGreen Team soared into action…

  5. We identified sources of Phantom Power and invited an energy specialist into our school to explain how we could lower our school’s energy output.

  6. We hosted a “One Hour No Power” day with 95% of the school working with natural light and no power. We watched the kilowatts drop!

  7. The Skyhawk energy detectives started giving out “Caught in the Act of Saving Energy” tickets at lunch hour with principal Mr. Bloch.

  8. Peers joined in to help chart the classroom results. Good work!

  9. Our custodian, Krista- Lee, showed us how to efficiently sort our classroom garbage and after “tracking our trash”, we knew we could do better ………. So we challenged other students to “go green” too.

  10. By reminding others to turn off equipment when not in use, promoting litterless lunches, and reusing the “stuff” we throw away, we can make a difference in our school-wide energy use. Its just the start, but we are already seeing a difference….

  11. As we learn about alternative energies,we continue to take care of our school environment.

  12. We have joined forces with our school PAC and started a Penny Drive for green projects……over $400 and still counting. Thanks parents! Our wish list includes: raised garden beds for vegetables, composting system, bird houses, plants….. and a school-wide “Day of Action” during Earth Week where all 480 students, plus staff and parents will take part in doing something good for our environment.

  13. In the meantime, the Skyhawk Green Team will work on conserving energy and protecting our environment. We know our favorite way to reduce energy use…..learn outside! No power needed!
