  5. School Times • Campus opens for breakfast at 7:30 am • Classes begin at 7:55 am and end at 2:20 pm Planners • Every student will receive a planner on the first day. • Planners will be used every day in every class. • Check your child’s planner daily.

Dress Code • Bottoms • Navy, black, or khaki/tan • If the bottoms have belt loops, a belt must be worn. • Must be straight-legged • All bottoms secured at the waist • Tops • Navy, black, yellow, gold, white • Must have sleeves and a collar • Must be tucked in and buttoned, with the exception of one or two buttons Logo may not be any larger than 2 x 2 inches • Review the Horizon Academy Dress Code Policy and Presentation on the home page of the school website and in the Student Planner.

  7. Dress Code • Shoes • Gym shoes must be secured with laces or Velcro and must • completely cover toes and heel. Gym shoes are not to exceed • 2 inches past the ankle or reach the bottom of the calf • muscle. High-top basketball shoes are acceptable. • Belts • A belt is required if the garment has belt loops. • Belts are to be solid black, navy blue, khaki, tan, or brown. • Hair Color • Must be within the natural hair color spectrum. • Review the Horizon Academy Dress Code Policy and Presentation on the home page of the school website.

PE Uniform • All middle school students are required to dress out for PE. • PE uniform consists of shorts, T-shirt, tennis shoes. • Tops: Navy, Black, Yellow, Gold, White • Tops must be solid-colored T-shirt with sleeves. • Bottoms: Navy, Black, or Khaki/Tan • Bottoms must be solid-colored athletic shorts secured around the waist and are to be mid-thigh or longer. • Gym Shoes • Gym shoes must be secured with laces or Velcro and must completely cover toes and heel. Gym shoes are not to exceed 2 inches past the ankle or reach the bottom of the calf muscle. High-top basketball shoes are acceptable.

Uniform Dress Code Exchange • Donate clothing items to exchange for the same number of items, as supplies permit. • Donated items must meet the Horizon Academy dress code. • Donated items should be clean and in good condition. • Items are being collected today and items can be donated or redeemed at any time.

School Advisory Council • All parents/guardians are encouraged to participate • The SAC is required by the legislature at all schools and oversees some funds • Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 5:00 pm in the Media Center • Sign up today in the cafeteria. • First meeting is Tuesday, September 10th

  18. The Horizon Big 3 • Do what’s right. • Do your best. • Treat others the way you want to be treated!

PBS (Positive Behavior Support) • Campus-wide program to teach students to follow the Hawk Expectations. • Program to recognize students for making good choices! • Students receive Hawk Eyes for being “spied” doing the right thing. • Students can redeem the Hawk Eyes for various activities and items.

  20. PBS (Positive Behavior Support) • Assembly on the first day of school • Learn about The Big 3 • Learn about Horizon Academy • Learn about PBS • It’s a . . . Hawk Hangout! • Students who earned a certain number of Hawk Eyes will be able to attend a fun activity during school.

Second Step Character Development Curriculum • Taught during PE class for middle school and by the teacher for 5th grade • All grade levels cover the themes of: • Empathy and Communication • Bullying Prevention • Emotion Management • Coping with Stress • Problem Solving, Decision Making • Substance Abuse Prevention

  23. Clubs and Sports • All students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. • Available after-school activities include: • Band • Chorus • Dazzler Dance Team • PomPom Squad • Available sports include: • Cross Country • Track and Field • Basketball • Volleyball

After-School Tutoring • 21st Century Grant Program • An after-school academic and enrichment program for Horizon Academy students. • Mondays through Thursdays from 2:20 pm to 5:00 pm. • Transportation provided. • Students must sign up to participate and may be placed on a waiting list once the program is full.
