  2. Being a newly expectant teen mother is a very critical situation.

  3. Teen mother or underprivileged woman needs special support like: • Emotional support • Physical support • Teaching

  4. A doula is willing to give extra time to an individual who may not be old enough to raise a child or who may not have the financial means in starting a family. They may have the support of their family members, but teaching them to do things on their own is essential to not only their life but the life of their child.

  5. They also bring resources to other places in their community that can assist them such as nutritional programs as well as assistance from their local Department of Human Services for financial and medical support.

  6. Post-partum depression is more likely to happen in teen and underprivileged mothers as they feel as though they have no where to turn and that they are not fit to care for a newborn. A doula that is working with teen mothers and underprivileged mothers will also spend more time post-partum then they typically would with a regular birth.

  7. Talk to your health care provider or local public health or Department of Human Services office to find out if there are any doulas in your area to help assist you.
