The standard WorkPad desktop provides: • Lean for Value Stream maps, widely used in health care and manufacturing. Lean maps are often used for high-level processes, with drill-down to... • Process for traditional process models, using the industry-standard BPMN notation • Diagram for general-purpose diagrams – the most common use being the construction of Target Operating Models or other overviews of an organization’s intellectual estate

Library Stencils Along with the standard stencils provided with the WorkPad desktop, the Library Service provides: • Master Data for managing common lists of resources, available in all models, Master Data is explained in the separate Business Optix Library Service – Master Data guide • Workflow for managing Review and Approval cycles, automatic document generation, and other automated tasks to be performed by the Library Service. Stencils and Templates Each stencil defines: • all the components, with their display and connection rules, available for building diagrams • all the properties associated with each type of component • the internal structure used for models For each stencil, a corresponding template defines the initial content of a New Model

Stencil Extensions • The components and properties defined in any stencil may be extended or modified by means of stencil extensions • Some standard stencil extensions are provided with the product itself (these always begin with an _ underscore character) • Other custom extensions may be specific to your organization • Stencil extensions are separate files: this allows new versions of standard stencils to be deployed without losing your organization’s custom extensions System/Stencils Stencils (e.g. Process v4.0.xbs) Template (e.g. Process.xbp) Stencil sub-folder (e.g. Process) Standard Extensions (e.g. _Transformation.xbs) Custom Extensions (e.g. My Business.xbs) Stencil images (e.g. CatchMessage.gif)

  6. Deploying Stencils in a Library • The Library Service allows customers to deploy new stencils and custom extensions, making them available to all users of a library • Stencils are deployed by uploading them to the Stencils sub-folder of the library’s System folder • Stencil file names identify the minimum product version they require. For example, a v4.0 stencil will be ignored by earlier versions of WorkPad • For each stencil (.xbs) file in this folder, there should be a matching (unversioned) template (.xbp) file • Most stencils use their own marker images. These should be uploaded to a sub-folder with the same name as the stencil • Standard and custom stencil extensions are also uploaded to the same sub-folder. Stencil extensions are versioned in the same way as the stencils themselves.
