  3. I. Physical properties (e.g.- mass, volume, density, color, odor, shape, texture, etc.) A. It describes properties that can be discovered without changing the substance State- easily observed form of a substance Melting point, boiling point, hardness, conduct electricity, magnetism, conduct heat

  4. B. Density- D=m/v Mass divided by volume 1. How much matter is in a certain volume 2. It determines if a substance will sink or float - < or > 1 g/cm3 (density of water) C. Physical properties help determine uses II. Chemical Properties (p. 50) A. Describes how it acts at a molecular level B. Can be discovered only by changing the substance C.
