Planning: • Market and Industry Research: • Product Development include three concepts • Introducing New Concept in Market: • Completely new products that are based on innovations and can introduce in market. • Addition of New Features in Existing Products: • Research for demands of customers and introduce new things in existing products of your own company or other competitor's products. • Modifications of Existing Products: • Modify the products to improve performance and in order to better meet customer requirements.
Identify Customer Requirements: • Identify customer • Gather customer information • Translate information into needs • Organize requirements • Establish relative importance of needs
Identify Customer Needs: Identify the specific customer which are target for specific products. Following factors can effect the needs and choice of customer. Age Group: Target customers can be toddlers ,younger ,middle age or old citizens. Climate Difference: Customer needs are also effected by climatic differences e.g. cold areas required specific articles that keep them warm.
Income: A person’s income plays the most significant role in determining if a purchase can be made. Education: The manner in which people dress is often based upon their educational level. Those with advanced degrees in law and business administration, for example, will have a greater need for fashion apparel and accessories than those with less formal educational achievements. Life Style: Everyday routine of customers also have great influence on their needs and choices for garments.
Design and Development: Material sourcing: Sourcing can be defined as the process of determining how and from where manufactured goods or components will be procured.’ Sourcing basically determine the most cost efficient vendor of materials, production, or finished goods at the specified quality and service level.
Types of Sourcing: Internal or Domestic Sourcing: Fabric or trims are procured from local suppliers and manufacturers. External or Global Sourcing: Sourcing of material from global market or out of country.
Pattern Making: Pattern is a template from which parts of garments are traced out on the fabric. Pattern can be made on paper or cardboard.
Sample Preparation: Patterns are used to cut the fabric into garment parts and sample is stitched according to specifications given by the customer.
