What can Croatia do to change the climate? Emissions Reduction and Mitigation Costs
What can Croatia do to change the climate? Mitigation and Institutional Analysis • The Government has sent a clear message that energy efficiency, renewable energy and reduced emissions are important. • A fair amount of technologicalcapacity exists for mitigation. • Opportunities for financing emissions reductions exist and are increasing. This is likely tocontinue to grow as Croatia moves towards EU accession.
A Climate for Change - Recommendations • To address current climate variability – regardlessof future climate change- data isrequired to improve the management of specificsectors – e.g. agriculture, disaster response to heat waves/ droughts. It already impacts 1/4th of Croatian economy. • Physical impact studies coupled with economic analysis could provide the basis for developing adaptation measures. • Additional analysis related to mitigation is necessary and more stakeholders beyond the energy and industrial sector should be engaged in efforts to mitigate emissions. • Integrate climate change into longer term strategic plans for infrastructure, urban planning (on the coast and inland), agriculture, water use, etc.
