Maritime Safety Information Marine Safety Information (MSI) is information that is broadcast to mariners by official agencies for their safety. Marine safety messages consist of messages such as weather warning, warnings about dangers to navigation, failure of navigation devices etc. These messages are broadcast over satellites, Navtex broadcast system, and various radio telephone systems as well as the international high frequency narrow band printing service. For this purpose the world is divided NAVAREAS (NAVigational AREAS) where information from official providers is „filtered” before being broadcast on the system to mariners.
Maritime Safety Information NAVTEX The NAVTEX system (NAVigational TEleX) is part of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). It is used for the automatic broadcast of localised Maritime Safety Information (MSI) using Radio Telex.
Appointment of the Nautical Department of CHI as national Co-ordinator for Navigational Warnings Internal written procedures based on Joint IMO/IHO/WMO Manual on Maritime Safety Information – MSI National Coordinator for navigational warnings, it is responsible for reception, analysis, and distribution of navigational warnings vitally important for safe navigation.
Maritime Safety Information The Nautical Department of the CHI is appointedNational Coordinator and performs its duty in accordance with Internal written proceduresbased on Joint IMO/IHO/WMO Manual on Maritime Safety Information – MSI. The Croatian NAVTEX Station has been installed in Hvar Is. (Q) since 1999 (previously Split), covering the area of the Adriatic Sea, being maintained by the coastal station Split Radio. This station broadcasts every four (4) hours. Correctness in the promulgation of information is controlled on the NAVTEX receiver in Nautical Department of the CHI. No failure occurred during ordinary operation. Schedule of navigational warnings is shown in the following table: The most important maritime safety information – Notices to Mariners (monthly edition), 7-day's bulletin of navigational warnings and the list of Temporary (T) and Preliminary (P) Notices – are available on www.hhi.hr.
In accordance with the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), the eastern part of the Adriatic Sea belongs to A1 Maritime region in which the Republic of Croatia is obliged to provide coverage with VHF, VHF DSC and NAVTEX signal. . With the Law about Plovput it is stated that the above mentioned activities shall be carried out by Plovput on behalf of the Republic of Croatia. Maritime radio service of Plovput is carried out by means of VHF, VHF DSC and Navtex systems via three coast radio stations: Rijeka Radio, Split Radio and Dubrovnik Radio. VHF DCS is paging sytem that uses data signals to automate the transmission and reception of calls on VHF marine radio channel 70.
Plovput is a commercial company with limited liability, 100% owned by the Republic • of Croatia. • Its basic activity, according to the Maritime Code and Plovput Split Act, is related to • safety of navigation and comprises: • Maintenance of maritime waterways in the internal sea waters and • territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia; • Implementation of aids to navigation on maritime waterways in the • internal sea waters and territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia and guarantee of their correct functioning; • - Radio service on maritime waterways of the Republic of Croatia; • - Researches and designing necessary for carrying out of its basic activities. On behalf of the Republic of Croatia,Plovput is a member of the International Association of Lighthouse Authorities IALA.
