  1. CREATIVE CRITICAL REFLECTION A LEVEL MEDIA STUDIES COURSEWORK- DOCUMENTARY PACKAGE BY ANUSHRI MENON

  2. How do your products use or challenge conventions and how do they represent social groups or issues? • For the majority of people in India or travellers from abroad interested in coming to India would know that Goa is a location famous for its Churches and Beaches and the same would be portrayed in films and documentaries too. For my documentary, I went in the opposite direction of these conventions and focused mostly on the underrated places of Goa that the majority of the population is unaware about.

  3. --Fairy shrimp • One of the locations portrayed in the documentary is the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. This sanctuary is the home to hundreds of migratory birds and other species. Maintaining a natural habitat in an urban populated environment is hard. Salim Ali bird Sanctuary has successfully preserved this natural habitat especially when Goa is a tourist magnet. One example of an unfortunate even takes place in Uluru, Australia where Fairy Shrimps were widely popular. Due to this very reason, it was a well known tourist attraction and the amount of tourists visiting the location could not be controlled. This led to a massive amount of pollution in its natural environment causing all the fairy shrimp to die. The main point of this location used in my documentary is that natural habitat of various species can be preserved if the right measures are taken no matter the amount of human population present or visiting.

  4. How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of ‘branding’? • Branding can be defined as the promotion of a particular product or company by means of advertising and distinctive design. In this case, I have made my documentary about Goa different compared to all the other documentaries about Goa. I have made sure to focus on the very underrated places of Goa that people would not usually expect from a tourist location like that or when they look up on the location in Google. Due to this reason, my documentary would stand out from the other documentaries about Goa thus giving a sense of Branding due to its unique ideas and innovations in the way each location was planned and shot.

  5. How do your products engage with the audience and how would they be distributed as real media products? • This documentary’s target audience are basically travellers who are in search of a location which consists of different types of activities and sites. Instead of constantly looking around the places, one can just take a look at this documentary and receive most of the information they would like to. This creates a connection between the documentary and the keen travellers or learners. • This documentary would be distributed across various platforms of new media. It has its own website. For this documentary to reach the current generation of viewers, social media pages for this documentary would be created on Instagram and twitter. Not only this, posters would be put up all across India and in some of the major countries of the world.

  6. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project? • SOFTWARE- I made my documentary with the help of windows movie maker as it was already present on the device I was working on. I used Adobe InDesign to make my poster for the documentary. I also used Adobe Photoshop to edit the pictures I used on my poster. • Hardware- I used a Canon DSLR along with an Iphone 7. I used a mixture of two cameras as there were certain scenes that were better shot in the phone and vice versa. • ONLINE- I used Wordpress.com to show the progress about my documentary and blog every aspect about it. I used Youtube to upload my Documentary. For one of the minor tasks which was to make a website, I used Square Space.com to create a website for this documentary.
