RCHS Graduation Requirements English 4 years (40 credits) Science 2 years (20 credits) Math 3 years (30 credits; must pass Alg 1) Physical Education 2 years (20 credits) Social Studies 3 years (30 credits) VAPA or World Language1 year (10 credits) Electives 70 credits Total Credits: 220 Plus: CAHSEE – ELA and Math And: 40 hours Community Service Hours
4-Year College Bound - a - g Requirements In order to be eligible to attend any school in the University of California (UC) or the California State University (CSU) systems as a freshman, you must take certain courses in high school. These classes are known as the “a – g” Subjects:" “a” 2 years of History/Social Science “b” 4 years of English “c” 3 years of Math required, 4 years recommended “d” 2 years of Lab Science required, 3 years recommended “e” 2 years Foreign Lang. required, 3 years recommended “f” 1 years of Visual or Performing Arts “g” 1 year of a College Preparatory Elective
4-Year College Bound - a – g Requirements All a - g classes must be at least at the College Preparatory (Prep) level You must pass all a - g classes with a “C” grade or above in order for your grade to be eligible for a - g credit (a “C” average, however, will not get you into most four-year colleges)

English – 4 Year Requirement Placement is based on teacher recommendation, previous English grades, and CST scores. English 9 (meets a – g- requirement) English 9 Honors (meets a – g- requirement) Language Arts Block (not a – g)
Mathematics – 3 Yr. Requirement Placement in Math classes is based on assessments, teacher recommendation, previous math grades and CST scores. Algebra Essentials (elective) => Algebra I => Practical Geometry/Geometry => Algebra II Algebra I => Practical Geometry/Geometry =>Algebra II or Discrete Math Algebra I Honors => Geometry => Algebra II Geometry Honors => Algebra II/Honors => Pre-Calculus
Mathematics – 3 Yr. Requirement All 9th grade students will be placed in Algebra I unless they meet the following criteria for placement in: Algebra Essentials Grade of C or below in 8th grade Algebra I Teacher recommendation, assessment and low CST scores Algebra Honors Grade of B or better in 8th grade Algebra I Teacher recommendation, assessment and appropriate CST scores Geometry Honors Minimum grade of “B+” in Algebra 1 Teacher recommendation, assessment and appropriate CST Scores
Science –2 year graduation requirement Placement in Science classes is based on previous grades and CST scores. Earth Science Biology Grade of A in both 7th and 8th grade Math and Science Teacher recommendation and appropriate CST scores Principles of Bio Medical Grade of A in both 7th and 8th grade Math and Science and taking Geometry in ninth grade
Physical Education – 2 Yr. Req. All 9th graders are required to enroll in Physical Education All 9th graders are required to take the California State Fitness Test in the Spring semester
Freshman Selective Course Liberal Arts or World Language World Geography Honors Spanish or French Pre-Requisite: Qualify for English 9 Honors Media Arts Graphic Design, Digital Photography, Animation and Video Production Health Science and Medical Technologies Principles of Biomedical Sciences (PBS) Provides an introduction to the health field and related studies Pre-Requisite: Concurrently taking Geometry in Ninth Grade Engineering & Design, Automotive or Building Trades Wood Technologies, Computer Assisted Design, Auto Body, Sewing Art I Visual Arts Pathway class Sports Sports, Nutrition and Training Survey
World Language This is an “elective” option for 9th grade as there is a 1 year World Language or Fine Art requirement for H.S. graduation Spanish or French courses are open to all students earning grades of “C” or better in English, along with teacher recommendation, and appropriate CST scores

Worried about meeting college qualifying a - g requirements*? Meeting requirements for high school with grades of “C” or better (a “C” average, however, will not get you into most four-year colleges) The CSU a-g requirements specify 15 specific courses; the UC requirements specify 16 specific courses We encourage students to explore and challenge themselves in their course selections over the 4 years of high school *Eleven UC required college- preparatory courses must be Completed prior to senior year (including summer courses)
