Work plan overview - history • Initiated at GOVST-I, Toulouse, 2009 • First version of plan was completed 2009/2010 • and included a “deliverables & achievement” table, • linked to TT activities • for GOVST-II, Tokyo 2010, a refresh was proposed to • align work plan with national report • National reports template was provided to streamline • updating system information • System information for the work plan is now resembling • national reports and “delivery & achievement” table was • replaced by information on “milestones” and • “contributions to task teams”

Work plan - purpose • - Provide objectives, activities and planned linkages of • GODAE OceanViewfor 2009 – 2013 • Describe details of the future plans for the national groups, • task teams and PO • Response to overarching societal and research • requirements for ocean modelling and assimilation in a • consistent framework to optimize mutual progress and • benefit • Develop a long term strategy of progressing • international communication and coordination in support of • the ocean forecasting, global ocean observing system and • new areas of ocean research, e.g. eco-system prediction, • coupled atmosphere-ocean models, etc.

Work plan – structure • Includes: • General introduction • System & centre plans: 14 groups are represented, • covering America, Europe, Asia and Australia • Five task team plans • Plans for the project office, as well as plans for capacity • building, outreach and education • - Need to consider expanding, elaborating on capacity • building and outreach • Need to develop/ include a communications plan • Latest work plan publication – May 2011 (available from the • GODAE OceanView website)

Work plan – new members New forecasting system represented at last years GOVST- meeting: for Brazil (REMO) – Clemente Tanajura for India (INDOFOS)– Francis Pavanathara • Submission of work plan for these system for the • coming years now is included in the GODAE • OceanView work plan • The first national report from these countries are • due after this meeting

Most of the updates where done more than a year ago Depending on system developments and new activities we need to update the plan again Communications plan Reference for the GODAE OceanView review We propose to introduce an annual update cycle with the option to update intermittently if required Work plan updates are due now (system reps + TT co-chairs) Reminder: National groups (system rep) should provide their national reports now Reminder: Task Teams (co-chairs) should provide a half-page report on activities carried out in the last year Work plan updates

  8. Work plan was completed in May 2011 – a living document! Two new members joined the GOVST providing their contribution to the work plan Needs updating annually Last updates out of date Updates need to be made now – final deadline 19 Dec 2011 Work plan will be very important as a reference for the GODAE OceanView review In addition: Reminder to submit the national reports and task team reports Summary
