  2. Background • CV project implementation is very well engaged. • Thanks to MS strong support at all levels. • Items for discussion / approval: • Management/reporting of the project; • New recommendations in the manual; • Timetable for implementations; • Further work on ESeC. Point 3.2. Core variables implementation

  3. Management of the project • Yearly report to the DSS, based on factual information about implementation status by variable, survey and countries. • Yearly update of the manual. • Yearly or two-yearly meeting/workshop of the WG CV. Point 3.2. Core variables implementation

  4. 2009 proposals for updates • Net monthly income (including more income component) • WG consulted in 2009; • Comments received, document revised ; • DSS agreement on the outline in annex I; • Details to be sent to the WG; • Implementation to be monitored in the phase 3. • Country of birth/citizenship – clarification of geo-political changes (annex II). • Impact of classification revisions (annex III) • Nace Rev. 2; • ISCO 08. Point 3.2. Core variables implementation

  6. Some clarifications • All CV in all surveys, but… • Not income in LFS, census and SES • SES is enterprise survey, so adaptation is needed • Next round census is already decided • Use of registers is encouraged, provided that they contain the right information • Citizenship / country of birth should follow the UN census recommendations, having in mind that in specific situations, with very limited population, the impact of some deviation would be negligible as explanatory variable • Work on standardisation of names and codelist is on going • Migration is high on the EU agenda Point 3.2. Core variables implementation

  7. European Socio Economic Classification • Thanks for the grant final reports to BG, FR, IT and HU • Main conclusions: - ISCO-08 implies new ESeC - Full ESeC only possible for LFS (ISCO 3 digits) - Reduced ESeC (ISCO 2 digits) with additional core variables? • Options:- Restrict ESeC to researchers? - Improve ESeC for a core variable and decide upon  2nd option privileged by DE, IE, FR, CY, SE with various degrees of availability • Eurostat proposal: • Statistical ESeC based on core variables (ISCO 2 digits, professional status, sector)details in LFS (ISCO 3 digits, supervisory resp., enterprise size) • Focussing on continued improvement in the implementation of ISCO-08 • ESSNet ISCO-08/ESeC (leader with partner countries)? • Future related topics: • Quality of this variable will have to be tested in some MS • Consultation of research community (slight differences research & statistical ESeC) • ISCO workshop of 27 November 2009 Point 3.2.
