4. Where we stand in creativity in India • Creativity became a popular word during the 21st century. There is a growing body of literature on the expanding social and economic impact of creativity. Many social thinkers assert that creativity is the most critical factor to sustain the role of the United States as the spearhead of scientific progress in the world. Surprisingly, although the teaching of creative thinking is widespread in business, there is very little teaching on creativity in medicine and academia. We really do not teach creativity to our students in medicine or other paramedical sciences in particular Nursing education. 6. What it means of creativity • Creativity involves the power to create and bring about change. Creativity involves originality, imagination, inspiration, and inventiveness. The visionaries and pioneers in medicine have always looked for innovative solutions to improve the practice of medicine. Fortunately, creativity is not restricted to great artists, but it can be fostered by training, encouragement, and practice. Creativity is a biological process, and people can be trained to be open to environmental stimuli than can provide opportunities for imagination and ingenuity. Everyone has the power to be creative; while not everyone will paint a masterpiece or write a great novel, everyone can be curious, seek change and take risks. Dr.T.V.Rao MD

9. We need creativity in Medicine • In medical practice, difficulties in making the correct diagnosis or prescribing the right treatment arise because we do not have all the necessary information. Yet we often do remarkably well, without systematically going over all the options, by applying “rules of thumb,” intuition, and other rapid cognition tricks, albeit subconsciously.
