Prevention • The goal of primary prevention is to keep cancer from developing. • The goal of secondary cancer prevention is to detect and treat precancerous conditions ex: screening test , genetic test
Modern method ~Screening test
Modern method ~Genetic test
What is genetic test? • the process of using medical tests to look for changes (mutations) in a person’s genes or chromosomes. • Predictive gene testing: look for gene mutations that might put a person at risk of getting a disease.
the benefits of genetic test • the chance for a better understanding of your risk for a certain disease • finding disease earlier, when treatment is more likely to be helpful.
the drawbacks of genetic test • do not give precise answers about diseases. • A positive test result does not always mean you will get the disease, so the test may create anxiety
Example of genetic test • About three to five percent of colorectal cancers)are believed to be caused by mutations in the MLH1, MSH2, MSH6 , PMS2 or EPCAM genes. • When someone carries a mutation in any of these genes ,are at higher risk of developing cancer. • We can have genetic test that see if someone have these mutations to estimate the risk of having colorectal cancer.
