In a city, the buildings are tall, or low? • What about towns? • Traffic: Heavy? Light? • people: Few/ Not crowded? Many / crowded? • Lifestyle: Quiet? Noisy? Exciting? Busy? • Transportation: Public buses? Taxis?
Life in a big city is always……… . There are a lot of things to do. • My ………….. is Mexico City. I was born there. • Paris is the …….. of France. • Seoul, Korea, has a large …….. More than ten million people live there. • What kind of ….. do you use- the train, the bus or the subway?
Syllable Stress • Each word is made from syllables. • Each word has 1, 2, 3 or more syllables. • Each syllable usually has at least one vowel (a, e, I, o, u)
Word Stress • To stress syllables or words, we make them LONGER in duration and HIGHER and louder in tone. • In English, if the word has more than one syllable, we stress one specific syllable. • For sentences, not all words are stressed on the same level. This makes the English language musical and not monotonous. • Stressed words must be one of the CONTENT words. • Unstressed words are called FUNCTION words.
