Possible Reading Activities For 3rd Grade Read to a younger child for 20 minutes Read a new author Read aloud to an adult for 30 minutes Read a newspaper article Read a poem Read a book and then tell about the main character Read a book and then tell about the setting Read a book and think of 2 words to describe the whole book. Read a book and make a connection to one of the characters. Read a book and think of 3 new titles for that book. Read a nonfiction book and write down 2 facts you learned. Read a picture book and tell 2 observations about the illustrations. Read a Caldecott Medal winner. Read an Arkansas Diamond nominee. Read a magazine article. (We have lots of magazines in Library)

How to “Visit” a State • Pick a state! If it has a Genre listed on the state, find a book that matches that genre (use sticker). If there is no Genre listed, you may choose ANY book to read. • Take an AR test on that book. (you must have an 80% or above) • You do not have to print the test. Record your score on your map or on recording sheet on back of map. Also record the title of the book you read. • You can mark out the state with a large V for Visited.

Celebrating Your Reading Milestones Halfway Point: When you finish Half of the Challenge, you will be recognized at Rise and Shine and be awarded a Star Reader tag necklace. You will also have your picture taken driving a car. You will be able to choose where your car is placed on the U.S. map in the hall outside the Library.
Celebrating Your Reading Milestones Finishing Your Road Trip: When you have completed all of the Reading Challenge, you will be recognized at Rise and Shine and receive an invitation for the Reading Splash Celebration at end of year. Reading Splash Celebration includes: Blow up Water Slides and Slip and Slides Water Guns Snow Cones/Face Painting
Go out and Get started… Recommendation: Pace yourselves and try to visit 15 states per quarter (9 weeks). You Can Do It!!!
