Project Introduction • Topic chosen based on dream jobs requirements in order to improve key skills • Assignment: create a character with its own story starting with the concept sketches to a 3D textured model in Maya, ready to be rigged and animated (paying attention to the topology)
Research/Brainstorm • Brainstorm for character and story ideas using “Maya 2 character animation” 1st chapter • Result: 13 concepts >> 13 characters, each with setting, motivation, 2 obstacles • Chose 1 and started the research based on it
Character and story concept • It’s a story about a dino-dragonwho lives in a sky mountain with a forest who wants to save his friend and get revenge on the mad hunter.
3D model • Initially I started based on curves
Upon further research I restarted and made it with mostly with primitive polygons
The model was checked with a basic texture and some lightsources
Texture • First I arranged the model for a easies UV mapping and later rigging
The UV maps were created using mostly automatic mapping and then adjusting and connecting them • The head, the body , 1 leg, I arm and 1 wing and the tongue were all separate components • Later the opposing leg, arm and wing were duplicated and mirrored and placed in the right position
