What is Mechanical Engineering? • ME is concerned with the technological and economic aspects in the design, development, and use of machines, products, and processes • ME may be the broadest of the engineering disciplines • MEs work in the energy, transportation, consumer goods, defense, housing, agriculture, and many other industries – not just cars and engines Micro-gear pump
ME: Thermal/Fluid Sciences Normal Shock Normal Shock M=1.4 M=1.4 Triple Point Triple Point
What is Industrial Engineering? • IE integrates human, information, material, monetary, and technological resources to produce goods and services optimally • IE may be the most business- and people-oriented of the engineering disciplines • IEs work in factories, banks, hospitals, government, airlines, telecommunications, e-commerce, etc.
