Equal Opportunities. ‘Sport for all’. Given the National level of support, the benefits of physical recreation & sport and the opportunities available through the voluntary, private & public sectors surely it is safe to assume that all those that wish to participate are able to do so.

Sport England & the Department of Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) have regularly researched the levels of participation in the UK What did the ‘Taking Part Survey’ & the ‘Active People Survey’ research find? • Who participates more – rural inhabitants or urban inhabitants? • What is the most popular sport? Going to the gym, swimming, playing football or jogging? DCMS survey - 69% of people participated in active sport AP survey – 21% of the adult population take part in sport regularly Why is there such a difference?

‘Equality of Opportunity’ Does this mean that all people should be able to access & participate in all forms of sporting & physical recreation? What is inclusiveness?
Activities can be provided by schools, youth clubs or voluntary organisations at low cost However, we can never ensure equality of opportunity, we can only seek to achieve the following: • Access to a reasonable range of facilities • Opportunity to receive the benefits without attempting to provide access to all activities • A level of provision that enables talented individuals to fulfil their potential
