Intended Use The PowerPoint is divided into three sections of use: • Lesson will be presented by the teacher to the class as a whole. • The activity will be used in small groups of 3 or 4 students to reinforce phonemic awareness. • The worksheet will be used as an individual homework assignment to reinforce the lesson. Student Goals and Objectives The student will be able to: • Categorize words as same or different by medial sounds • Produce sentences with rhyming and alliteration • Identify rhythms and patterns of language, including rhyme and repetition • Become familiar with Microsoft PowerPoint through the activity Teacher Slides
How to Introduce the PowerPoint • The teacher will introduce the rhyming unit to the students. • The teacher will then tell the students that they will be doing an activity with rhyming upon completion of the lesson. • The teacher will explain the activity using an example. Teacher Slides
Advantage of using PowerPoint • It will combine both the auditory and visual learning styles to facilitate learning. • It gives the students the ability to interact directly with the lesson. • It will keep the students interested in the lesson, therefore keeping the students on task. Teacher Slides
Handout • This handout, Rhyme Time!, should be printed out before the class starts. • The handout has examples of different rhyming words, to which the students have to match other rhyming words. • This handout should be given to the students after the lesson and activity, as a homework assignment Teacher Slides
Design of the Project • This design allows the students to work together and be interactive with the lesson. • It also introduces the students to the use of technology at an early age • The students are prompted to work together to answer questions and make choices about different rhyming schemes. • The simplicity of the rhyming activity makes it appropriate for student use.
