Study/outcome Variables • Behavioral (diet, physical activity, stress-management, smoking, social supportive resources) • Psychosocial (depression, stress, problem solving/coping) • Biological • Progression rate in the IMT of carotid arterial wall • Plasma lipids and lipoproteins (TC, triglycerides, HDL- C, apolipoprotein B, LDL, dense VLDL) • Hemoglobin a1c • Blood pressure, • Body weight/body mass index, waist hip ratio
Summary of MLP Results • Consistent behavioral improvements in diet, exercise, smoking, social support and stress-management for MLP at 6, 12 and 24 months. • 2. Psychosocial and biological improvements, all time points, not as strong as 6 months. • 3. Sonogram trend in favor of MLP.
Objectives of MEDLIFE (CROSS-CUTTING ISSUES) • Evaluation of natural history of longer-term (3- to 7-year) effects of change in multiple behaviors • Study patterns of relapse across multiple behaviors • Effects of theoretically important mediating variables on relapse and maintenance
