Purpose To instruct, to teach humans a lesson about recognizing and overcoming their faults or weaknesses; to poke fun.
Tip-Offs • The story is very brief. • Main characters are usually animals and are characterized quickly. • One animal/character usually displays the fault or weakness being critiqued. This fault is what brings a downfall to the character and this conclusion leads directly to the moral, which follows the fable and is stated in a sentence.
