Purpose of CCHIT – Mission and Goal • To accelerate the adoption of health information technology by creating an efficient, credible, and sustainable certification program • To develop, create prototypes for, and evaluate the certification criteria and inspection process for EHRs
Background of CCHIT - History • Originally established in July 2004 • Founded by: • American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) • Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) • The National Alliance for Health Information Technology (The Alliance) • HHS awarded contract in October 2005 • Transitioning to a self-sustaining model
