WWJD • “What would Jesus do?” was a pop religious slogan that began in the 1990’s and produced the popular WWJD bracelets, etc. • Yes, we must follow the example of Jesus (Jn. 13:15; 1 Cor. 11:1; 1 Jn. 2:6) … What did Jesus do?
WWJD • But, there are things that Jesus would not do (Mt. 12:15-21) • Following the example of Jesus is not limited to what he would do, but also what he would not do (1 Pet. 2:21-23)
What Would Jesus Not Do… • Jesus would not sin (1 Pet. 2:22; 2 Cor. 5:21; Heb. 4:15) and we should not sin (1 Jn. 1:7 - 2:1; 3:6; 5:18; Rom. 6:12ff; 1 Cor. 15:34) • Jesus would not speak guile (1 Pet. 2:22; Heb. 7:26) and we should not speak guile (1 Pet. 2:1-2; 3:10; Rev. 14:5)
What Would Jesus Not Do… • Jesus would not retaliate (1 Pet. 2:23) and we should not retaliate (Mt. 5:44; Lk. 6:27-28; Rom. 12:17-21) • Jesus would not offer others what is unauthorized (Mt. 20:23) and we should not either (Col. 3:17)
What Would Jesus Not Do… • Jesus would not condone sin (Jn. 2:16; 5:14; 8:11) and we should not condone sin (2 Cor. 6:14 – 7:1; Eph. 5:11) • Jesus would not act selfishly (Phil. 2:5-6; Lk. 22:42; Rom. 15:1-3; Heb. 10:7,9) and we should not act selfishly (Phil. 2:3-4)
