He was also seen to Americans as more experienced than Kennedy and he was a Protestant. • Kennedy was the self-confident liberal wo believed that an activist state could imporve life at h ome and confront the communist challenege abroad

Election of 1960 continued • Kennedy was forty-three years old and filled with energy as he sounded the theme of a “New Frontier,” as well as encouraging Americans to “get this country moving again” • Nixon fumbled his upper hand during a televised deate where more than 70 million Americans watched. Nixon was sweaty, appearing haggard and insecure. Kennedy look tanned and confident on the screen. • The debate and currenct economic recession at the time lead Kennedy to victory with 56.5% of the Electoral vote.
