LAW OF CONSERVATION OF ENERGY ENERGY CANNOT BE CREATED OR DESTROYED, IT JUST CHANGES FORM
LAW OF CONSERVATION OF ENERGY • THERE ARE LAWS AROUND HOW ENERGY MOVES. • The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it only changes from one form to another. • Example Using the hair dryer showed electrical to mechanical to thermal energy to do its job.
Applying the Law of Conservation of Energy • Energy cannot be created or destroyed, but it can be transformed. When we say we are using energy, we are changing one form of energy into another. • Use the marbles and ruler to apply the Law of Conservation.
Applying a force • Place your marbles in a row in the ridge of your ruler. • Applying a force on an object can cause motion, a form of energy. • Apply a force by flicking a single marble at one end of the ruler so it hits the other 4 marbles. • Write in your chart what happens. • Apply another force by flicking two marbles. • Apply a third force by flicking 3 marbles.
What Happened? • The law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be created or destroyed; it just changes form. How does this law apply to your activity? • What did you observe as you flicked one marble? • Two marbles? • Did you observe a pattern as you flicked different amounts of marbles? • Write a brief description explaining the connection between the Law of Conservation of Energy and your results.
