Fact & Belief ‘Fact’ is different to ‘belief ’. A fact is something that states what is trueand can be proved. Belief is often based on an individual person’s opinion. However, it is important to remember that any belief could actually be true, but just not yet proven. Task: Draw two columns in your book, in one list 2 things about you that are facts. In the other list 2 things that are opinion. E.g. Fact Belief Mr Beirnehas a dog called Theo Mr Beirnebelieves his dog is the cutest dog in the world
Faith & Belief Although similar, faith is different to belief. Faithis when a person believes something to be true and puts their ‘trust’ in what they believe to be true. (E.g. you falling backwards blindfolded, trusting I will catch you)
Faith & Belief If a person chooses to live their life according to the teachings of their religion, their belief becomes a faith in that religion. They have no evidence it is true, but still live life trusting it is true. Sometimes, faith (trusting something without evidence) can be a real challenge…
Faith & Belief The Bible describes faith in this way… ‘Faith is being sure of what you hope for andcertain of what you do not see.’ (Hebrews 11:1) Plenary: • Write a paragraph that answers this point: • How might a person ‘trust’ in God?
Fact, Faith & Belief Fact: ‘Something that is known and accepted to be true.’ Belief: ‘An opinion that something is true often without any real evidence.’ Faith: ‘Trusting in what you hope and are convinced is true.’
